To all our insureds regarding Illinois Department of Insurance Company Bulletin 2017-03:

Suspension of cancellation and nonrenewal in Disaster Area - Illinois counties of Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry.


Society Insurance will not be issuing any cancellations or nonrenewal notices to disaster affected policyholders from 7/12/17 to 9/30/17. We will also be extending other policy provisions such as submission of proof of loss, submission of bills, payment of funds or other insurance related requirements to a minimum of 60 days from the date last required, or longer if necessary. We will also consider other exceptions to requirements or underwriting guidelines which are not complied with due to a result of the disaster. Please contact your agent if you have any further questions.

How to report a property, auto or liability claim

  • Contact your independent insurance agent
  • Call us at 888-576-2438 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • After hours or on holidays and weekends, call us at our 24-hour emergency claims number, 888-576-2438, and choose option 8

What to do in the event of a liability claim

  • Preserve any evidence, including surveillance video
  • Secure witness contact information, if applicable
  • If possible, take photos of the area immediately after the incident
  • Complete a customer accident/incident report immediately following the incident

What to do in the event of an auto claim

At the scene of the accident
  • See if anyone involved in the accident is injured
  • Contact the police
  • Do not discuss the accident with anyone but the police, your independent agent, or Society Insurance
  • Secure witness contact information, if applicable
  • If possible, take photos of the scene of the accident, including the vehicles involved
  • Report the claim as soon as you are safely able to do so
Auto damage due to collision
  • Visit Society’s direct repair program (DRP) for a listing of all the preferred shops in your area. If you choose to use our DRP network, the shop will complete an estimate and provide photos directly to Society Insurance, expediting the Auto Claims process.
  • Call to ensure your vehicle has arrived at the repair shop
Auto glass damage
  • If you need glass on your vehicle repaired or replaced, contact Safelite Auto Glass at 877-876-7120
  • Give your policy number to Safelite and arrange a time to come in for repairs
Auto accident/damage caused by an animal
  • See Society’s direct repair program (DRP) listing all our preferred shops in your area. If you choose to use our DRP network, the shop will complete an estimate and provide photos directly to Society Insurance, expediting the Auto Claims process.
  • If your vehicle was damaged by striking an animal, have your qualified auto body repair professional fill out our animal collision affidavit. Email, fax or mail the completed form to your Society claims representative
Stolen vehicle

What to do in the event of a property claim

Fire damage
  • Contact the necessary authorities
  • Preserve and protect your property
Theft from your business
  • Notify the authorities and provide a list of all stolen or damaged items
  • Complete the theft notice of loss form and pass it along to your claims representative
Equipment breakdown / Power outage
  • Contact the necessary authorities, if applicable
  • Preserve and protect your property
  • Immediately call the utility company following a power outage
  • Keep freezer or cooler doors shut during power outages
  • If food must be discarded, maintain a detailed inventory and take photos of all items
  • Keep the contact information of any technicians that work on the equipment
Other property losses
  • Contact the necessary authorities, if applicable
  • Preserve and protect your property

How to contact a claims representative

  • If you know the name and extension of the representative handling your claim, call our bypass number, 800-242-9780, and enter their extension
  • If you don’t know the name of the representative handling your claim, their extension, or email address, call our front desk at 888-576-2438 and ask for the claims department
